ISO 9001:2000
The latest version of ISO 9001 offers organisations an opportunity to revise their Management System so that it is a more practical useful business
tool
The updated standard is different in a number of ways:
- The standard requires you to define your
business processes.
- The standard requires structured deployment of
objectives throughout the organization
- The standard requires you to measure both those
processes and your customer satisfaction
- The standard reduces the requirements on
documentation.
- The standard now only requires 6 documented procedures
- The standard now attempts to be system based
Potentially, these changes should make ISO 9001 a much more flexible
standard and hopefully eliminate much of the unnecessary bureaucracy that has
often been associated with the standard. The changes are intended to support the use of modern
management methodologies, such as the balanced scorecard and systems thinking.
It also makes it easier to unify your management systems (health and safety, environmental management,
security management) into one integrated system reducing both management and certification costs. It
remains to be seen how successful this will be in practice.
Withdrawal of ISO 9002 and 9003
All organisations requiring Quality Management certification will now be
approved against ISO 9001. Any organisation currently approved against ISO 9002
or ISO 9003 will have to meet all the requirements of ISO 9001:2000, relevant to
the scope of approval

ISO 9001:2000 Rescue
It happens you know, there is often a good reason. You think you are on top
of your QMS, then the Quality Manger goes off on long term sickness next thing
you know the Certification Auditors have arrived and nobody has a clue.
Organisations do lose their certificates, and it may be a cliché but it is
better never to have had your certificate than lose the thing. If you are in
trouble, need someone to provide the paddle, give us call.

ISO 9001:2000 Implications for Your Business
To create a successful quality system relies on more than reading the words in
the Standard, it requires understanding and considered application. Your
business processes should drive the structure and definition of your management
system. Your system will also be influenced by your products, customers,
industry sector, etc so every management system should be unique. One of the
best way to understand and decide whether ISO 9001 is useful for your
Organisation is to let us give a 1 day seminar to a selection of your people,
then decide for yourselves.
